It was the examination period, and all my classmates were diligently revising for the upcoming test. However, I paid little attention to my studies as I believed that studying was a complete waste of time. Instead, I chose to spend my time playing online games, convincing myself that I could always study later.
Instead of revising, I played games with my friends every day. However, one by one, they began to stop playing and focus on their studies. As for me, I stubbornly continued, even playing with other players from all around the world. My parents constantly reminded me to study, however, I would brush off their advice and ignored them completely. Little did I know that I would soon regret my actions.
Time passed swiftly, and the examinations drew closer and closer. The only revision I did was completing a few mock papers my teacher, Mdm Lim had assigned. Deep down, I knew that I was unprepared, but I chose to ignore the growing sense of unease within me.
Finally, the day of the examination arrived. While my classmates appeared calm and well-prepared, I, the lazy backbencher, felt extremely nervous. Butterflies churned wildly in my stomach as I flipped open the first page of the test paper. To my utter horror, the questions were far more difficult than I had expected. My mind went completely blank, and panic surged through me.
“If only I had studied earlier,” I thought desperately. Regret washed over me like a tidal wave as I struggled to answer the questions. However, it was too late. No matter how hard I tried, I could barely complete the paper.
A few weeks later, the results were released. My heart pounded anxiously as I received my paper. To my dismay, I had failed the examination. When I handed the paper to my parents, they were deeply disappointed. My mother shook her head silently, and that expression of disappointment pierced through my heart.
At that moment, I realised the gravity of my mistake. I had wasted my time and ignored the advice of those who cared for me. Determined to change, I made up my mind to correct my actions.
From that day onwards, I deleted all the games from my computer and created a strict study schedule for myself. Although it was difficult at first, I forced myself to stay disciplined. Whenever I felt tempted to play, I reminded myself of my failure and my parents’ disappointment. Gradually, I became more focused and consistent in my studies, and my results began to improve.
As I reflected on this entire experience, I could not help but regret my actions and be ashamed of my folly. I have learnt a valuable lesson about the consequences of my rash act. Henceforth, I resolve to manage my time wisely and to always prioritise my responsibilities over distractions.
