The school dismissal bell resonated through the air, marking the end of the school term. Whoops of immense joy resounded throughout the hallways as throngs of students burst out of their classrooms, relishing the start of the much awaited term break.
As I merrily headed out of school, suddenly, from the corner of my eye, I caught sight of Sarah, the girl who never missed a chance to bully someone, was now bullying my innocent classmate, Caryn.
Caryn looked upset and tried to walk away but to no avail. My heart pounded against my chest as cold sweat trickled down my face. However, I knew I should do the right thing and not be a bystander.
I took a deep breath, marched forward and warned Sarah to stop bullying Caryn. I reminded Sarah that bullying can cause permanent emotional damage. By a stroke of luck, my art teacher, Mrs Tay, noticed the situation and immediately came over.
Mrs Tay confronted Sarah and spoke to her about her actions and behavior. “Sarah Leow! Look at me! Your parents are called and they should be here sooner or later. At this moment, apologise to Caryn for what you have done to her and report to the principal’s office.” Mrs Tay spoke with anger and disappointment.
Sarah apologised as tears flowed down her cheeks. “I’m so sorry, Caryn! Please forgive me,” Sarah exclaimed. “It’s okay, as long as you learned your mistake and vow to not bully anyone anymore,” Caryn spoke with warmth.
Sarah then slowly made her way to the principal’s office with her head hung down in shame. Caryn then thanked me for helping her stand up against Sarah as tears flowed down her cheeks as a form of gratitude.
As I reflected on the day I had mustered up my courage to help a friend in need, I could not but beam with pride over my good deed. This has indeed been one of the most unforgettable experiences in my whole entire life and will be etched in my mind.
